Former Inter coach Frank de Boer, who had an infamously unsuccessful period in charge of the Nerazzurri, discussed his time in charge of the Milanese club and Crystal Palace in an interview with Dutch media outlet Algemeen Dagblad earlier today.

“You carry things inside you, it’s normal. But at the same time, they were incomparable situations, you know. Inter were such an unbelievable hornet’s nest that I dare say almost no coach had managed to do well at the time.

“It turned out to be true, because after me three other coaches tried. Obviously, I should have done things differently, but the whole dynamic around the club was so difficult.”

He then moved onto speaking about his time in charge of Premier League side Crystal Palace.

“At Crystal Palace it wasn’t so bad what I wanted to change, but there I ran into the same situation as Ronald Koeman at Valencia. You want to say goodbye to some crucial players, there are also good reasons for that, but those players still have a lot of influence.”

De Boer signed a three-year contract with the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2016, after the departure of Italian coach Roberto Mancini.

He oversaw 14 games, from August to the start of November. In that time, Inter won five, drew two and lost seven, with his final win percentage sitting at 35.7%.

He was replaced by current AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli, who also did not find much success with Inter.

The Nerazzurri under coach Antonio Conte are currently second in the Serie A table after 14 games, sitting on 33 points, one behind Pioli’s Rossoneri side.
