Former Inter defender Nicolas Burdisso spoke about his time as a sporting director for Boca Juniors, which Serie A teams he’d like to work with and Nerazzurri forward Lautaro Martinez in an interview with Italian media outlet TuttoMercatoWeb earlier today.

“An experience that is worth ten alone. I divided 2020 into three parts. I wanted to get the license to become a sporting director, it was something I was missing, and so I came back to Italy to do the course at Coverciano.

“Despite the problems due to the pandemic, in September I still managed to return to Italy to officially get my license at Coverciano.”

He commented on how he always wanted to work in the world of football after his playing career.

“In Argentina, I acted as an advisor to several entrepreneurs who bought clubs. Not an intermediary role, that’s not what interests me because I want to be a sports director. I only helped them in some choices, decisions and contacts.”

The 39-year-old Argentinian played for Inter, Roma, Genoa and Torino whilst in Serie A. He discussed which club he would like to return to as a sporting director.

“All four, honestly. As a sporting director, I would like to obtain the results at each of these clubs that I did not obtain as a player.

“I’d like to go to Inter to win the Champions League that I didn’t win, to Roma to win the Scudetto, to Genoa to take them back to the Europa League and to Torino to give them back that dignity, that Toro spirit, which seems to have been lost in recent years.”

Burdisso feels ready to take the step up and become a top sporting director.

“Absolutely, Coverciano has completed my training. I was a sporting director at Boca and I have a 20-year career as a player, which I think speaks for me. I want to bring to my next club the same professionalism and determination that distinguished me as a player.”

Finally, Burdisso spoke about the future of Inter striker Lautaro Martinez, who was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this season.

“I hope he stays in Italy, just like Dybala. Also, because I grew up with the myth of Serie A and I strongly believe in the strength of the Italian league. This is also why it is my second home.”

Burdisso spent five years of his career with the Nerazzurri, from 2004 to 2009. In that time, he won four league titles, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana.

He made 139 appearances for Inter, for a total of 9966 minutes. During that time, he scored eight goals and provided five assists.
