Former Inter midfielder Giancarlo Pasinato discussed the Nerazzurri’s campaign so far and the position of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radio Sportiva earlier today.
“If Inter do not win the league they have failed, because when you have the Champions League you can hardly be competitive on both fronts, while at this point, given the signings wanted by Conte, even second place would be a failure.”
He then moved onto discussing the current situation surrounding 28-year-old Dane Eriksen, who seems destined to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window.
“He is not functional in Conte’s game, at Tottenham he was quite free behind the striker and scored important goals from free kicks, here we have Lukaku and Martinez up front. If he stayed, he’d struggle and would only play in the Coppa Italia.”
Finally, Pasinato discussed the decisiveness of Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku to the Nerazzurri.
“At the moment Ibrahimovic is more decisive than Lukaku. Since he arrived, Milan have risen to first place in the table. Perhaps he has brought that desire to take risks and make them understand that they can win too.”
Eriksen, who is contracted to Inter until 2024, has made 12 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 373 minutes. In that time, he has failed to match coach Antonio Conte’s required intensity.
CEO Beppe Marotta recently admitted that the 28-year-old Danish midfielder is on the transfer list and is expected to leave in next month’s transfer window, with either a return to the Premier League or a possible move to Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain on the cards.
