AC Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis discussed the Rossoneri’s title challenge this season, next month’s transfer market and the joint stadium project with Inter in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Milano based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The season is long and I don’t want to impose limits on the dreams of players and fans. Chasing dreams and believing in our abilities is important, but dreams are not enough. We need preparation and teamwork too. With all these ingredients everything is possible. I have my dreams and also my nightmares.

“Ibra knows what is necessary to dream, what is necessary to do to achieve dreams, because he knows that behind every dream there is hard work. For me it’s the same. My focus is on work. When I am asleep, I dream, but when I am awake, I work.

“The year I started my adventure in the United States, people said it was impossible to create a professional football league there and then we saw what happened. I see similarities here.”

He highlighted how the management were not setting a fixed position in the table that coach Stefano Pioli must hit this season.

“We don’t want to impose a target spot in the table, because it’s not that simple. Things are not so clear-cut, they are overall assessments. For us it’s more important to see the progress towards the objective, which is to give us a future that is up to scratch.”

The Rossoneri CEO touched on next month’s transfer window and if any reinforcements will be made.

“This team is a delicate organism, with many ingredients, there is a fairly magical balance to be preserved. The choices must be coherent. For example, there are personalities who emerge, like Kalulu, he was ready because he worked.

“So, you have to pick the right people and not just pick someone for the sake of it. Maldini is sensitive and intelligent, so he knows how to keep the balance.”

Finally, Gazidis spoke about AC Milan’s and Inter’s work together to build a new stadium to replace the San Siro.

“This city needs a stadium for the future. In the MLS I have seen how stadiums have given a very strong impulse to the development of football. The San Siro is mythical, but that’s not the issue.

“The issue is that if we say no now, we already know what will happen. We have to think about future generations of fans and their needs.”

AC Milan are currently top of the league table after 14 games, sitting on 34 points, one ahead of intercity rivals Inter.

The Rossoneri have not lost a game domestically this campaign, being the only remaining team in Europe’s top five leagues to keep that record this season.

Stefano Pioli’s side won the first Milanese derby between the two teams earlier this season.
