Inter defender Milan Skriniar will not be leaving the club to join Liverpool in the January transfer window, reports in England have confirmed.

The Premier League champions are short of centre-backs following injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip and had been linked with a more for the Slovak.

But the Liverpool Echo claim Inter’s €60 million price tag has put them off a move because Liverpool do not wish to spend that much on a defender this month.

A deal was described as ‘highly unlikely’, with Jurgen Klopp’s side expected to continue with the squad as it is for the remainder of the season.

Skriniar was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer but has since become a key figure in Antonio Conte’s three-man defence this season.

He scored the winning goal in Inter’s final game of 2020, securing a 2-1 win away at Hellas Verona to keep the pressure on Serie A leaders AC Milan.
