Inter Coach Antonio Conte: “The Squad Knows The Path We Have To Follow, Penalty Avoidable”

Inter coach Antonio Conte discussed the Nerazzurri’s exhilarating 6-2 win over newly promoted Crotone today in an interview with Italian broadcaster Inter TV after the game.

First, he touched on how the team have now won their last eight league outings, and how that is more than just luck.

“Absolutely. We needed the three points and to start the new year in the same way as the previous one. There was the initial difficulty of being 1-0 down, but we were then able to recover.

“The penalty could certainly have been avoided, so there was a danger of getting nervous after a draw like that. However, we were good at continuing to play, creating situations and being cynical.”

The 51-year-old Italian coach spoke about the legacy of the eight consecutive wins.

“Certainly the 24 points in the table, which are fundamental. When you win with continuity, as we are doing, self-esteem and confidence increase.

“The squad knows the path we have to follow, we have to close our ears, be concentrated and move forward.”

Finally, Conte spoke about how the team looked best in the second half, and responded incredibly well after half time.

“I honestly think we deserved the lead after 45 minutes. The draw was more our fault at the end of the first half. In the second half we didn’t risk anything, scoring several times.

“I’d like to congratulate Crotone though, they showed they know how to play football. I also congratulate Stroppa for the work he’s doing.”

The Milanese club’s win has put them top of the league table after 15 games, sitting on 36 points. They are two points ahead of Stefano Pioli’s AC Milan, who can return to the top spot with a win over Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento this evening.

Inter’s next game is against Sampdoria next week on Wednesday, before they face Roma on Sunday next week, an important game as the Giallorossi look to join the fight near the top.
