Atalanta are keen on acquiring one of Inter’s most highly-rated youngters as part of a deal for club captain Papu Gomez, according to Italian media reports.

As per today’s print edition of Tuttosport, the Bergamo-based club are interested in Nerazzurri centre-back Lorenzo Pirola.

Inter have been strongly linked with signing Gomez, who has been widely tipped to leave Atalanta in January, and the excellent relations that club president Steven Zhang has with Atalanta owner Antonio Percassi has Inter feeling optimistic about their chances.

Atalanta are understood to be seeking a sum of €10 million for 32-year-old Gomez and Inter could well make up part of the transfer fee by including an academy player as part of the deal.

The Bergamaschi have taken a liking to Pirola, who is currently on loan at Serie B side Monza, but Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and his deputy Dario Baccin do not wish to sell the 18-year-old.
