Inter offered Radja Nainggolan to Atalanta in exchange for Papu Gomez a few weeks ago, according to Italian media reports.

As per a report in today’s print edition of La Stampa, the Nerazzurri proposed a loan swap deal that would have seen the Belgian and Argentine exchanged.

The deal ultimately never went through and Nainggolan has rejoined Cagliari on loan for the remainder of this season, having fallen out of favour under Antonio Conte.

The report goes on to explain that in the coming days Gomez’s agent Giuseppe Riso will meet with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini and the club’s directors to take stock of Gomez’s situation.

Gomez has been widely tipped to leave Atalanta this month following a severe breakdown in relations with Gasperini and Inter are one of the clubs to have been most strongly linked with signing him.

This season he has scored five goals and tallied four assists in 16 appearances across all competitions to date.
