Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi is similar to legendary Nerazzurri defender Giacinto Facchetti in terms of how often he scores, according to a report in Italy today.
Tuesday’s print edition of Tuttosport drew a very demanding comparison for the Moroccan international, putting him up against one of the greatest players in Inter’s history from the all-conquering side of the mid-1960s.
This season Hakimi, 22, has scored a goal on average every 177 minutes, and if he could continue at this rate he would finish the season with 12 or 13 goals in Serie A, which would make him the best goal-scoring full-back ever in a single season in Serie A.
It would also ensure he surpassed the 10 goals scored by Facchetti under Helenio Herrera during the 1965-66 season.
The report from the Turin-based news outlet goes on to highlight that the record for most goals scored by a defender in Serie A in a single season belongs to former Inter defender Marco Materazzi, who scored 12 goals in the 2000-01 season whilst at Perugia.
Materazzi scored seven of his goals via penalties, however, underlining just how impressive Hakimi’s form in front of goal is.
Inter’s last prolific full-back was Maicon, who scored six league goals in the 2009-10 season.
