Inter legend Beppe Bergomi believes the Nerazzurri only have the fourth-best squad in Serie A this season.

Antonio Conte’s side are one point behind league leaders AC Milan after a run of eight consecutive wins and are viewed by many as the favourites to win the Scudetto.

But the 1982 World Cup-winning defender took a different view when speaking on Sky Sport Italia’s transfer program on Monday night.

Bergomi said: “Inter’s added value is Antonio Conte. This will be not be popular, but in my opinion the Nerazzurri squad is the fourth best squad in Serie A.

“AC Milan remain my favourite. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has improved everyone there, I also learned some things about when he was at Inter talking with Beppe Baresi.

“Nobody has Theo Hernandez or Franck Kessie who is the best midfielder in the league.

“They also have someone like Hakan Calhanoglu who shoots and assists and they have a super goalkeeper with Gianluigi Donnarumma.”

Reports in Italy this week have suggested Inter are considering bringing Eder back to the club as they seek a new fourth-choice striker and Bergomi was in favour of a move for the Italian-Brazilian.

“Since there is no money and Inter are not able to do big deals, Eder is a good idea,” he explained.

“Inter need an attacker who knows how to protect the ball and can run into space; I like Gervinho as well, both could be good ideas.”

Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his playing career with Inter then went on to share his thoughts on Atalanta’s Papu Gomez, who has been strongly linked with Inter.

“If Inter want to change something with a different attacking midfielder, Papu can be a solution,” he suggested.

He proceeded to discuss Arturo Vidal and Inter coach Antonio Conte’s recent comments regarding the Chilean national team player, who has not exactly performed to expectations since arriving in Milan.

“Vidal plays different football at Inter to what he was playing with Bayern Munich and Barcelona and he has to get used to it.

“He made serious mistakes in the Champions League and has not yet scored a goal. He must have more patience.”
