Inter missed the chance to potentially knock Juventus out of the race for the Serie A title by losing to Sampdoria, according to Italian football journalist Paolo Ziliani.

The Nerazzurri headed into this match as huge favourites but their eight-game winning streak in Serie A came to an end as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Inter had no shortage of chances in the match in a rainy Genoa and even missed a penalty and were made to pay by two of their former players Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde, who got their names on the score sheet for the hosts.

By winning, Inter could have gone top of Serie A, at least for a few hours, depending on the outcome of the result between AC Milan and Juventus.

In addition to this, Ziliani thinks Inter could have eliminated arch rivals Juventus from the Serie A title race.

He took to social media platform Twitter and posted: “On the day when, by winning at Marassi, Inter would have gone to first place in the standings or knocked Juventus out of the Scudetto race, Antonio Conte managed to get schooled by Ranieri allowing Roma to close the gap by three points, waiting for Napoli to play and for Milan-Juventus.”
