Inter’s defeat at Sampdoria will force the Nerazzurri’s management to intensify their search for a striker in January, a report in Italy argued today.

Romelu Lukaku’s absence in the starting XI at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris was enough to blunt Antonio Conte’s side and send them home empty-handed, as goals from Antonio Candreva and Keita Balde secured the points for Claudio Ranieri’s men.

As per Tuttosport’s print edition, after the sales of Christian Eriksen and Andrea Pinamonti, Inter will go after one of Graziano Pelle, Gervinho or Eder to bolster their attacking options.

But this does not apply to Pelle, who is a free agent, or Eder, who plays for Inter owners Suning’s other club Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League.

The report highlighted how a side that had scored an average of 2.5 goals per game in their last 13 league games could only find the back of the net once at Marassi, with a centre-back in Stefan de Vrij.

Sunday’s crunch match against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico means there is little time to consider options now but the Turin-based publication said Conte had made his thoughts clear with Piero Ausilio, Beppe Marotta and Dario Baccin about what needs to be done.

When it comes to the sales of Eriksen and Pinamonti, the Dane and Italian have drawn no shortage of links to clubs elsewhere.

Eriksen has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain as well as a host of Premier League clubs whilst many Serie A clubs, including Benevento, have shown a keen interest in Italian youth international Pinamonti.
