Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has called out the Nerazzurri’s critics for putting too much pressure on them to win Serie A this season.

Antonio Conte’s side suffered their first defeat in the league since October on Wednesday away at Sampdoria but they still find themselves within a single point of AC Milan, who are leading the way.

AC Milan lost to Juventus but were congratulated nevertheless by pundits and Bergomi, whilst in Sky Sport Italia’s studios, believes that Inter should also be congratulated.

“We congratulated AC Milan despite having lost, we must also congratulate Inter because they didn’t deserve to lose,” he remarked.

“They had a penalty kick and created many chances, the best player on the pitch was Sampdoria’s keeper Emil Audero and it was a very difficult pitch to play on.

“I think the league title this year can be decided by how the teams fare when they do not have their best players available.

“Until now AC Milan had done well to pick up results but they did not against Juventus, we will see what the rest of the league has in store for us.”

Bergomi proceeded to share his thoughts on the Inter team as a whole and pointed out something negative that Inter sometimes have when they play.

“Inter played a good game against Sampdoria but they made mistakes, maybe it is less beautiful to look at than AC Milan but the team is always solid, always creates scoring chances, it’s a shame about the naivety they sometimes have.

“In the past it was Arturo Vidal, on Wednesday it was Nicolo Barella, who must not make such cheap errors albeit he had a good game.

“Inter must react to this defeat, but because Juventus are not out front we are give them the strong responsibility to win the league at all costs and I think it’s incorrect because we’re putting too much pressure on them.

“For me, Inter are a strong team, I don’t doubt that, but I don’t think they’re much stronger than the others, I don’t see why we have to expect so much from Inter compared to the other teams.”

He then shared his views on Alexis Sanchez’s penalty miss early on in the match at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris that could have given the visiting Nerazzurri the lead.

“It is true that he does not score many, but I remember the penalty he scored in the Copa America final.

“It must be said that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has also missed two or three penalties this year.”

Bergomi spent the entirety of his career with Inter and is second only to Javier Zanetti in terms of appearances made for the club.
