Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta has stated that ambitious goals have been set at the club and admitted they will need to produce results in the long term.

Antonio Conte’s side are three points behind Serie A league leaders AC Milan after dropping two crucial points in the 2-2 draw at Roma yesterday.

The Nerazzurri have invested heavily to bring the Scudetto back to San Siro and Marotta is not shying away from their need to win trophies.

“The club has set itself ambitious goals from a technical point of view and to this end has embarked on a new cycle starting from last season,” he is quoted as saying at November’s annual shareholders meeting, in quotes just released by Calcio e Finanza.

Marotta, who has been in his post at Inter since 2018, then went on to discuss the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic had on things.

“Unfortunately, the pandemic has broken the pre-established landscape, allowing only a short break to the players and causing great inconvenience.

“In any case, the direction taken by the club is clear and the results are expected to be visible in the long term.”

Last season marked the beginning of the Conte era at Inter and in his first season as coach, he led the club to a second placed finish in Serie A, Coppa Italia semi finals and the UEFA Europa League final, which they lost to Sevilla.

So far this season, Inter have been eliminated entirely from European competition and are yet to play in the Coppa Italia but they will play in this competition for the first time against Fiorentina on Wednesday.
