Christian Eriksen has been urged by a former Denmark international to do his talking on the pitch at Inter and not through the media.
Eriksen has twice lamented his lack of playing time under Antonio Conte while on international duty this season but ex-defender Morten Bruun, who was part of the Denmark side that triumphed at Euro 1992, things he went about it in the wrong way.
The 28-year-old was once again an unused substitute during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Roma.
“I would like to see Eriksen demonstrate his dissatisfaction,” he explained in an interview with Danish news outlet B.T.
“Not with childish attitudes or through outbursts of bad taste from agents in the press, but as a great champion.
“Eriksen arrived in Italy as a superstar, a champion who had taken Tottenham back to the top of the Premier League and the Champions League final.
“He was a player who ended up in the sights of both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“When a large Italian club signs such a player, they are expected to do things in a different way than Eriksen has done so far.
“He must go in and ask for the ball from his teammates, direct the play and scold them when they are not playing well, like Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.
“That’s not how Eriksen reacts though. When his teammates go alone or make some other move, at most he has a surprised expression.”
Bruun then went on to draw a comparison between Eriksen and current Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders on the planet right now.
“In this context, I can’t help but think of Kevin De Bruyne.
“When he arrived at Chelsea eight years ago, he was the most introverted player in English football.
“He had to return to Germany to rediscover himself and today he is a completely different Kevin De Bruyne who performs in the Manchester City squad.
“He gets angry if teammates’ passes don’t come in correctly, but he does it sensibly.
“Maybe Eriksen can learn something from De Bruyne, because otherwise I can only be worried about the Danish’s next move.”
Eriksen has been heavily linked with a potential move away from Inter during this transfer window with Paris Saint-Germain having been strongly linked.
Bruun then went on to share his thoughts on what would happen if the 28-year-old were to secure a move to the French powerhouses.
“At Inter there are players like Marcelo Brozovic and Arturo Vidal, who certainly do not roll out the red carpet to a new competitor.
“Just like Marco Verratti and Ander Herrera would be ready to defend their territory from the arrival of a new player in Paris.”
