Antonio Conte’s decision to trial Christian Eriksen as a play-maker for Inter tomorrow could be great news for the Nerazzurri’s season, according to Italian journalist and Inter supporter Fabrizio Biasin.

The Danish midfielder will start the Coppa Italia last 16 tie away to Fiorentina in the deep-lying role normally occupied by Marcelo Brozovic, as confirmed by Conte in his pre-match interview with Rai Sport.

Sky Sport reported tonight that Conte will make eight changes to the side that started Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Roma, with only Samir Handanovic, Milan Skriniar and Lautaro Martinez expected to keep their places.

Eriksen will be partnered in midfield by Arturo Vidal, who has shaken off the knock he sustained at the Stadio Olimpico, and Stefano Sensi, making his first start since 30 September.

Conte’s experiment with the former Tottenham midfielder tomorrow comes in stark contrast with comments he made in November, when he told reporters at a press conference that Eriksen could ‘absolutely not’ play as a play-maker.

Biasin didn’t care about the Nerazzurri boss’s u-turn, however, tweeting: “It’s true, Conte’s comments tonight contradict his previous ones.

“But let me tell you, who cares?

“The important thing is he plays, perhaps even beyond tomorrow in the Coppa Italia.”
