Inter and Atalanta reaching an agreement over the transfer of Papu Gomez is a distant possibility at this moment, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Corriere dello Sport’s print edition, Atalanta want €10 million for the 32-year-old Argentine and are unwilling to let him leave the club for free.

An alternative to paying a fee would be setting up a swap deal involving a player valued equally to Gomez, although Inter are not very convinced about including someone like Lorenzo Pirola, who they intend to keep for the future.

Should the two clubs somehow come to an agreement however, the arrival of Gomez at Inter would enable Inter coach Antonio Conte even greater tactical flexibility given Gomez’s ability to play multiple roles.

Given the choice however, the report goes on to explain that Conte would rather have a player with characteristics to be the deputy to Romelu Lukaku rather than Gomez.

Ultimately Conte would like a low cost version of Lukaku but such a player is not on offer.
