Inter’s quest to secure a long-term replacement for goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is being held up by the club’s financial difficulties, according to an Italian media report.

CalcioMercato.com claim that the Nerazzurri cannot currently afford to commit €20-30 million to signing a new shot-stopper at the moment.

Despite not having the funds available to them, the club do have some players in mind to replace the declining Handanovic with Udinese’s Juan Musso and Atalanta’s Pierluigi Gollini regarded as the two favourites.

It remains to be seen whether the economic landscape will have changed sufficiently by the summer transfer window to allow such an investment between the sticks.

Musso, 26, is at the top of Inter’s wish list and is a player they have followed for a long time, but Udinese have no intention of granting any discount on the Argentine stopper, who has three clean sheets this term for Luca Gotti’s side.

Gollini meanwhile represents a possible opportunity for Inter, who are working on finding an heir to Handanovic although their current situation is forcing them to do so in a slow manner.

Handanovic faced more criticism from supporters on Sunday after another disappointing performance in the 2-2 draw in Serie A at Roma.
