Inter’s defensive fragility risks scuppering their chances of glory in Serie A this season, noted Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has argued.

The Nerazzurri dropped more points in their charge towards the Scudetto on Sunday when they squandered a lead to draw 2-2 at Roma.

Milan Skriniar and Achraf Hakimi’s goals appeared to have put Antonio Conte’s side on course for three crucial points, but his poor substitutions invited pressure and Inter were unable to prevent Gianluca Mancini heading home a late equaliser for the hosts.

“Roma-Inter put two imperfect teams up against one another, they were good but unable to play the game for more than a quarter of an hour straight,” Sconcerti explained as part of his latest newspaper column which appeared in yesterday’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Sconcerti then went on to further express his views on both of the sides.

“Inter create an industrial quantity of chances but then succumb to their defensive fragility and become victims of their opponents

“Roma lack balance, either they are overwhelming or they are overwhelmed, it’s a small fault which threatens to ruin all the good football they play.”

Inter are sitting in second place at the moment after 17 games played with them trailing league leaders AC Milan by three points.

Roma are in third place, three points behind Inter.
