Former Inter defender Paolo Tramezzani has sung the praises of the Nerazzurri’s on-loan defender Federico Dimarco, whom he coached while in charge of FC Sion.

Dimarco has starred at Hellas Verona this season after joining on loan with an option to buy last summer, scoring a wonder goal against Torino in the Gialloblu’s 1-1 draw last week.

Multiple reports in the media have stated that Inter are thinking about possibly bringing the 23-year-old back to the club, a move Tramezzani would appear to be in favour of.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, Tramezzani said: “For me he’s a top player.

“I had him at Sion [during the 2017-18 season] and I saw him do some incredible things.

“Goals like the one he scored against Torino or the one against Inter for Parma two seasons ago are the kinds of goals players in his position normally only score once in their career.

“Dimarco on the other hand is capable of several goals like that; even Sunday’s goal against Crotone wasn’t exactly easy.”

Achraf Hakimi is dominating the right-hand side of Inter’s team at present with the Moroccan scoring another stunning goal during Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Roma, his sixth of the campaign.

Tramezzani also had words of praise for the former Real Madrid full-back, before daring to draw a comparison between Hakimi and his Italian protege.

“Hakimi plays the role of defender but has the instincts of an attacker, he can get to the by-line and cross with his right foot or cut inside with his left to shoot” he explained.

“It’s an innate thing and Dimarco has it too, which for me is the best thing.”

Hellas Verona have an option to buy Dimarco outright for €4.5 million and given how he has performed, it can be presumed that they will take up that option.

Inter do however have a counter-option set at €6 million and could do far worse than bring him back, with Dimarco contracted to the club until the end of the 2022-23 season.

Whilst at Hellas Verona, Dimarco has made 18 appearances under Ivan Juric, in which he has scored two goals and provided three assists for his teammates.
