There is a strong possibility Christian Eriksen will stay with Inter beyond the end of the January transfer window, according to one Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport, this is the case as there has been nothing more than a few timid enquiries from Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, and because Inter are sceptical that there will be someone willing to pay the entirety of Eriksen’s €7.5 million net annual salary.

In this afternoon’s Coppa Italia clash with Fiorentina, scheduled to kick off at 15:00 local time, Eriksen will be tried as a deep-lying play-maker after failing to convince while playing as an attacking midfielder or wide in Antonio Conte’s midfield three.

The 28-year-old Denmark international’s spell in Milan has not panned out as hoped in the year since he joined from Spurs.

Eriksen has looked a shell of his former self and it now remains to be seen if being played in the role of ‘regista’ could perhaps kick-start his Inter career.

This season he has made 13 appearances across all competitions but has made no goal contributions.
