Inter coach Antonio Conte’s decision to play Christian Eriksen as a regista in this afternoon’s Coppa Italia clash with Fiorentina has several meanings to it, according to an Italian media report today.

Conte shocked many with his comments yesterday in which he confirmed he would be using the out-of-favour Dane in the regista role to take on the Viola at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

As per the print edition of Tuttosport, Inter have received no serious offers for Eriksen yet and with it increasingly likely that he will stay, Conte’s decision to deploy Eriksen as a play-maker could change things for him in Milan, although clubs could come in for him nearer the end of the January transfer window.

The feeling is that this is Conte making a last-ditch attempt to resurrect Eriksen’s Inter career, which has failed to take off ever since his arrival from Tottenham one year ago.

The report from the Turin-based news outlet goes on to question how much Conte truly believes in Eriksen’s capabilities of playing as a regista with them highlighting previous comments made in which Conte claimed Eriksen could not play such a role.
