Inter will not complete any business during the January transfer window, according to Italian journalist and Nerazzurri supporter Fabrizio Biasin.

Antonio Conte’s side are three points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan and have a golden opportunity to win the club’s first league title since their historic treble-winning campaign in 2010.

But Inter do not have any funds available to spend this month, unless they can offload unwanted players such as Christian Eriksen and Andrea Pinamonti first.

Speaking to Italian news outlet SuperNews, Biasin said: “According to Inter’s management, the situation is quite complicated as there is no money to spend.

“This is true for Inter, but also for most of the Serie A clubs.

“For this reason, the Nerazzurri will not carry out any business, neither incoming nor outgoing.

“The most likely thing is that the Inter group will remain the current one, which in my opinion is a more than competitive group.”

Conte was heavily criticised after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Roma for the decision to remove Achraf Hakimi and Lautaro Martinez, when the Nerazzurri were leading in the closing stages.

Asked for his opinion on the matter, Biasin admitted: “With hindsight everything is easier, and it is obvious you can say: ‘Yes, the substitutes made affected the final result’.

“In this specific case, however, I believe it is quite true.

“Inter played a very good first half of the second half, obviously thanks also to Conte, leading the game in a specific direction.

“When Roma reacted, Conte decided to defend the advantage.

“In my opinion, this was a mistake, because a team that aspires to win the Scudetto, instead of squashing themselves into their own box, they must try to do what they know they can do best.

“Inter know how to do it because we saw how well they could play in the first part of the second half.

“Taking off Lautaro and Hakimi, Inter’s two best players up to that point, was a bad move, which gave Roma more courage.”

Next, he discussed the futures of Eriksen and Pinamonti at Inter and spoke on whether Atalanta outcast Papu Gomez is a realistic target for the Nerazzurri.

“There have been many declarations of interest in Eriksen but everyone would just like the Dane on loan and this is not good for Inter,” he explained.

“Hence, it is very likely that Eriksen will remain in Milan.

“It is not excluded that, in the last phase of the transfer market, something may happen.

“We know that Inter are looking for a fourth striker more compatible with Conte’s idea of football, but at the moment Pinamonti has been blocked from departing.

“My feeling is that very few deals will be done. It will mainly be a market made up of exchanges between players.

“As for Gomez, Atalanta are asking for €10 million for the Argentine, and it’s a more than plausible request, since Gomez’s contract expires in 2022.

“In light of similar figures, no one can afford a player like Gomez, but I can’t imagine Papu training with Atalanta’s Primavera from here until the end of the season.

“For this reason, maybe alternative solutions will come up.”

Biasin was then asked what he thinks the team need to do in order to be more stabile and have more consistent results.

“Inter need more serenity, this is missing when they win, let alone when they fail to do so.

“I see few smiles within the team group; on the contrary, I perceive a lot of tension, even from the coach.

“In my opinion, Inter should start thinking in a united manner.

“The distinctions between club, coach and team group, in the long term, can cause problems.

“I believe that, with a little more harmony, this team can go very far.

“After all, we are talking about a club that is only three points off the top of the table.”

Biasin also looked ahead to this weekend’s Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus at San Siro when asked whether he thinks the squads are equal to one another.

“In my opinion, yes.

“It is true that Juventus have won the last nine titles in Italy and are more ready to face certain competitions but I believe that, on the other hand, Inter have made every effort to bridge this difference.

“If Juventus have a few more players in terms of their squad, Inter have an added value on the bench as Conte is a highly experienced coach, while Andrea Pirlo, although he may be a good coach, is still a rookie.

“The higher technical quality of the Bianconeri squad can be balanced by the greater experience of Conte compared to Pirlo.”
