Inter have sped up negotiations to sign central defender Alessandro Bastoni to a new and improved contract, according to an Italian media report today.

As per CalcioMercato.com, the Nerazzurri are ready to extend the contract of the young Italian through to the end of the 2024-25 season.

Bastoni, who is currently under contract with the club until 2023, will receive a salary of as part of the new contract but the increase will not kick in until the summer of 2021.

The reason for this is, as per multiple reports, Inter do not want to increase their wage bill during the course of this season.

Inter and Bastoni’s agent Tulio Tinti met earlier on this week to hold talks over a new deal for the former Atalanta player, who is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders on the planet at the moment.

This season he has made 20 appearances across all competitions, in which he has provided two assists.

He was an unused substitute this afternoon as Antonio Conte’s side secured a 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia.
