Romelu Lukaku is a medicine capable of curing any illnesses that may befall Inter during games this season, a report in Italy’s media suggested today.
Lukaku came off the bench and scored a late extra-time winner for Antonio Conte’s side in yesterday’s Coppa Italia last 16 over Fiorentina, setting up a quarterfinal date with city rivals AC Milan in a fortnight.
In today’s print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport highlight that Lukaku once again proved to be the problem solver for Inter and simplified life for coach Conte once again, scoring his first headed goal since last July at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
“What is the only vaccine that can treat the problems Inter suffer from this season?” their report asked, with a topical reference to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Nerazzurri huffed and puffed and eventually won a fascinating Coppa Italia match, but they were once again struck down by the illness only one man can cure: Lukaku.”
The report goes on to claim that the Belgian national team player is well aware that Inter are too wasteful in front of goal, while also allowing too many drops in performance during matches.
CdS joked that the problems are almost as Lukaku himself, arguing that for this reason it should not be overlooked.
This season the 27-year-old has made 22 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 17 goals and provided three assists for his teammates.
