Roma have moved ahead in the race to sign wantaway Atalanta attacking midfielder Papu Gomez, despite interest from Inter.

As reported in today’s edition of newspaper La Repubblica, Roma are keen to provide additional creativity in their midfield and have prepared a meeting with Atalanta to negotiate a deal for Gomez.

Giallorossi coach Paulo Fonseca has specifically requested Gomez and new Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto is keen to move early to secure a deal, with mounting interest from across Serie A.

Gomez has been frozen out at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia after a public spat with coach Gian Piero Gasperini and Inter are determined to land him.

However, the Biscione will need to raise funds before they can move for Gomez, with Andrea Pinamonti and Christian Eriksen high on the list of players Inter are keen to offload.

Both Inter and Roma may face some resistance in their respective approaches for Gomez, as Atalanta are believed to be reluctant to sell their Argentine captain to another Italian club.
