Inter’s Argentinian international striker Lautaro Martinez insists that he is confident that an agreement to renew his contract at the club will be found and remains focused on challenging for the Serie A title.

In a wide-ranging interview with Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport ahead of tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia against Juventus at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan’s San Siro district with kick-off scheduled for 20.45 CET, the 23-year-old sought to quell rumours that his future lied away from Inter.

“My agent and the club are working behind the scenes and I remain calm. I’m only thinking about giving my all for Inter and waiting for an agreement to be reached,” Martinez declared.

The former Racing Club man also claimed that the Nerazzurri were in a position to challenge for the Scudetto after an impressive start to the season that sees them occupy second place in the Serie A standings.

“We are a good group, even if we speak different languages we all understand each other and fight for the same goal.

“We have been through a period of adaptation with new arrivals but now we are where we want to be.

“By continuing to work hard every day we can improve as a team and continue,” Martinez concluded.

The Argentina international has 18 months remaining on his existing deal at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and negotiations to renew his contract have so far proved unsuccessful, fueling rumors of a move to Barcelona last summer, though Martinez claimed that an agreement was close in this interview.
