Inter wing-back Achraf Hakimi has enjoyed a magnificent debut season at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and the Morocco international is the highest scoring defender in Europe’s top five major leagues.

As reported in today’s edition of the newspaper Tuttosport, Hakimi’s attacking prowess on the right-wing has seen him rewarded with six goals so far this season, more than any other defender.

The summer arrival from Real Madrid has pushed forward as an attacking wing-back under Antonio Conte and with half of the season remaining, Giacinto Facchetti’s club record 10 goals in 1966-67 remains within touching distance.

Meanwhile, the overall Serie A record was set by former Inter defender Marco Materazzi whilst at Perugia in 2000-01, as the Italian international struck 12 times throughout the campaign.

Hakimi falls some way short of the overall career best record for goals by a defender though, with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos netting 100 times.

Former Borussia Dortmund defender Hakimi has made 17 appearances for Inter this season and helped the club to second place in Serie A.
