Former Inter president Massimo Moratti has praised the Nerazzurri for an ‘historic’ victory in the Derby d’Italia against Juventus last night.

Antonio Conte’s side ran out 2-0 winners at San Siro courtesy of goals from Arturo Vidal and Nicolo Barella.

Inter are now seven points clear of the Bianconeri in the Serie A standings, level with AC Milan before the Rossoneri play tonight at Cagliari, in a match they dominated from start to finish.

“I must honestly say that it was a great match, especially by Inter,” Moratti told Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

“It was historic because they played really well, in an important moment. I loved it.

“The players were very good, like the coach who fielded a perfect team.”

Asked if the match between the two sides could be considered a non-contest, Moratti responded: “After Juventus versus AC Milan in Milan there was certainly a fear that the Bianconeri would repeat a similar performance but I think Inter’s game yesterday prevented it from happening.

“In any case Juventus did not deserve anything yesterday.”

Next Moratti was asked whether Inter coach Conte or the players deserve more credit for the way that the match went.

“Both were very good and on par with one another.

“The coach was very important, very important indeed.

“He put the team in a position to play well from a technical and psychological point of view and tactically it seemed like a perfect match.

“The players were all good, there is not one who we could say could have given more.”

Moratti then spoke on whether or not he believes that Inter can go on and win the Serie A title for the first time since 2009-10, this season.

“Yes, but you don’t have to talk about it insistently.

“It is enough to continue to say that we are aiming to be first, but I believe that this year we have all the credentials to do so.

“It really depends on AC Milan and the other teams who don’t recover so quickly.”

Moratti, who owned Inter for almost 20 years, proceeded to discuss rumours that have suggested that current owners Suning could soon sell the club on.

“Would I mind? Very very much.

“They had and still have the characteristics to be able to carry Inter forward but I know absolutely nothing about what is happening.”

Inter’s next Serie A match is an away fixture against Udinese on Saturday, at which point they will be exactly halfway through their league campaign.
