Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella could be one of the Italian national team’s most important players for the next few years, a report in Italy’s media argued today.

Barella was praised by Gazzetta dello Sport for a ‘monumental’ performance in last night’s 2-0 win over Juventus in the Derby d’Italia, providing the assist for Arturo Vidal’s opener before adding Inter’s second shortly after half-time.

The former Cagliari man was rewarded with a rating of 8/10 for his efforts against the Bianconeri in the paper’s player ratings, the same rating given to the team as a whole.

“He was spectacular for his dynamism, consistency, midfield runs and crossing last night,” Gazzetta wrote.

Vidal, Alessandro Bastoni, Achraf Hakimi all got 7.5 while Romelu Lukaku, Stefan de Vrij and Milan Skriniar were all rated 7/10.

Samir Handanovic and Ashley Young both got 6.5/10, Matteo Darmian got 6/10 and the worst performing player on the day was Lautaro Martinez, who got just 5.5 as a result of him missing several good goal scoring opportunities.

Thanks to the win over the Bianconeri, Inter have moved level on points with current Serie A leaders AC Milan, who play against Cagliari later on today.
