Inter’s tactical and mental application was the key to last night’s Derby d’Italia win over Juventus, according to a leading Italian journalist and commentator.

Antonio Conte’s side got past the Bianconeri with relative ease as they picked up a 2-0 victory, their first success in this fixture since 2016.

Arturo Vidal gave Inter the lead against his former employers in the first half before Nicolo Barella doubled Inter’s lead shortly after half-time.

“Inter played the perfect match from a mental and tactical point of view,” Sandro Piccinini explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia.

“I saw a lot of quality, some great moments of talent and very few technical errors from Inter.”

Piccinini then went on to point out what was wrong with Juventus’ performance at San Siro but was quick to insist that he did not want to take anything away from Inter’s performance, which many in the media have given them praise for.

“Juve’s midfielders left something to be desired from in terms of quality, plus there was no competitive spirit.

“I don’t want to take away Inter’s merits, though, because when one team plays very badly there is another that plays very well.”

With the win over Juventus, Inter have moved seven points clear of them in the Serie A standings.

Juventus do however have a game in hand with that coming against Napoli.

The Nerazzurri will conclude the first half of their league campaign when they visit Udinese on Saturday, at which point they will have faced every side in the division once.
