Former Inter striker Alessandro Altobelli has admitted that he cannot recall a match between Inter and Juventus being as one-sided as Sunday’s meeting between the two sides.

Inter ran out 2-0 winners at San Siro over the reigning Italian champions thanks to goals from Arturo Vidal and Nicolo Barella.

Antonio Conte’s side won the match with relative ease and Juventus posed little in the way of problems for Inter, who picked up their first Derby d’Italia win since 2016.

“The match against Juventus is proof that Inter are up there, they didn’t do anything wrong, I don’t remember such a one-sided match between Inter and Juve, it’s a very positive sign for the future,” Altobelli explained in an interview with TuttoMercatoWeb.

Despite his positivity, Altobelli was not too keen to discuss the idea that the gap between the two sides has now been bridged.

“I don’t want to talk about this.

“Inter have been trying to close this gap for many years and perhaps they have succeeded.

“Last year they finished second by a point, now they are ahead and have won the head-to-head match.

“Inter have worked and spent a lot during this journey.

“They played a perfect match and did not give anything to their opponents.

“The Bianconeri will have to restart and know that the league is difficult and with many strong competitors.”

Altobelli then spoke on Nicolo Barella, who assisted the first goal and provided the assist for the second.

“He is no longer a surprise, he is one of the best midfielders in Europe as well as being great at retrieving the ball, assisting and scoring, he has had incredible growth and we expected this.

“Is he like Marco Tardelli? Forget Tardelli.

“Marco defended, attacked and scored, he was very complete.

“Barella has those qualities but I do not want to make comparisons.

In conclusion the legendary Inter forward spoke on the squad as a whole and insisted that the Nerazzurri must fight to win the Serie A title.

“I said from the start of the season that Inter are competitive, they have an excellent squad of starters and alternatives.

“The Nerazzurri have to fight for the title.

“If they finish second or third they wouldn’t have had a good season.”
