Inter held positive talks with Alessandro Bastoni’s entourage today as they look to tie the defender down to a new contract, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Nerazzurri were known to have met with Lautaro Martinez’s representatives on Thursday to discuss the striker’s future at the club.
Lautaro was not the only player to move closer to a new deal at San Siro, though, with Bastoni also looking forward to a fresh contract.
“Inter laid the groundwork for Bastoni to renew his contract, the meeting with his entourage went well,” Di Marzio told viewers on Sky Sport Italia tonight.
Bastoni’s contract expires in 2023 with reports in the Italian media this week suggesting Inter want to extend it through to June 2025.
Inter are unable to make signings as things stand in the January transfer window due to the financial difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Owners Suning have made it clear the Nerazzurri must offload players before they can acquire anyone else, but there are no imminent departures on the horizon.
The club are therefore focusing their efforts this week on extending the contracts of key players they already have, although it remains to be seen when they will be able to finalise any deal given the current economic climate.
