Atalanta forward Papu Gomez has not given up hope on a January move to Inter, according to a report in Italy today.

Gomez has been heavily linked with a departure from the Bergamo-based club during this month’s transfer window and as per Libero’s print edition, his preferred destination would still be Inter.

Inter, who are trying to offload Christian Eriksen, are not in a position at present to meet Atalanta’s €10 million price tag for the 32-year-old Argentine.

Gomez, however, is said to be willing to wait until February 1, the final day of the window, to assess his options because he wants to continue playing in Italy, preferably close to Bergamo, where his family are settled.

The report claims that Gomez could even consider moving to a club in Serie B, with Silvio Berlusconi’s high-flying Monza thought to be pondering a move for the forward.

Such a move would be satisfactory for all parties as Monza would get Gomez, Atalanta would not reinforce a direct rival and the player would be able to play regularly as he looks to keep a hold of his place in the Argentina squad ahead of this summer’s Copa America.
