Shamrock Rovers Captain Ronan Finn: “Inter-Bound Kevin Zefi Could Be Trailblazer For Irish Players”

Shamrock Rovers midfielder Ronan Finn is hopeful Kevin Zefi’s expected move to Inter will help create more opportunities for Irish players abroad.

Zeffi has been linked with a move to Inter with the Independent reporting yesterday that the transfer will take place once he turns 16 in February.

However, the forward’s agent Stephen Carr has since exclusively told SempreInter.com that there is no agreement with any club at present.

“Irish lads traditionally don’t tend to travel to these places but if it goes well for Kevin, maybe more Italian clubs will go: ‘Hold on, there’s talent here and we have never tapped into this market’,” Finn, who captains Shamrock Rovers, told the Irish Times.

“It’s been strange with young Irish lads.

“They’ve only ever tended to go to England, that’s always been the way where as maybe your talented lads on the continent, they’ll go to Belgium, they’ll go to Holland.

“So with Brexit being an issue, and there doesn’t seem to be any agreement on it, I think you will see this happening more and this could open a door.”

Zefi may only be 15-years-old right now but this has not stopped Shamrock Rovers from playing him 11 times this season, in which he has managed to score a single goal, which made him the youngest scorer in league history.

He has played for both Republic of Ireland under-15 and under-16s, boasting a goal record of six goals in 10 appearances with the former.

In addition to Inter, Zefi has also been linked with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and PSV Eindhoven.
