Inter could remove Lautaro Martinez’s €111 million release clause as part of the striker’s new contract, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, abolishing the clause when the forward signs a new deal could be beneficial for both parties, especially Inter following last summer’s assault from Barcelona.

One of Lautaro’s representatives told reporters yesterday that there had been no discussions regarding the release clause, when Inter met his agents at the club’s headquarters, but this report insists that it could be removed for good.

Gazzetta argued that it would be nearly impossible for any club to fork out €111 million for the former Racing Club forward this summer, given the current economic landscape in football following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report also claimed that there are no clubs with a serious interest in signing the 23-year-old currently.

In the absence of huge offers, Lautaro would be even more likely to sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri and continue his blossoming strike partnership with Romelu Lukaku.
