Following his dismissal in his side’s goalless draw against Udinese, Inter coach Antonio Conte let his frustrations boil over in an argument with referee Fabio Maresca.
The Nerazzurri tactician was shown a red card in stoppage time during the Serie A clash at the Dacia Arena after arguing over the amount of additional time given, with Inter chasing a goal to send them top of the table.
After receiving his marching orders, Conte exploded into a furious attack on Maresca and claimed that the referee had previous history of damaging Inter, as reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera.
“It is always you Maresca, just like with VAR,” Conte is reported to have claimed to the referee before engaging in a verbal tirade in the tunnel after the final whistle.
The former Chelsea and Juventus coach was referring to Maresca’s decision not to award a penalty for a challenge on Ivan Perisic during Inter’s 2-2 draw against Parma in October despite a VAR check.
Meanwhile, Conte is facing the prospect of a lengthy ban beyond the initial one-game suspension he picked up for the red card, whilst Maresca himself may also be taken off the refereeing schedule over the coming weeks.
