Inter are set to miss out on the signing of Atalanta captain Papu Gomez, with the Argentine midfielder on the verge of completing a transfer to Sevilla.

The 32-year-old has been frozen out at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia after a bitter dispute with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, leading to a host of clubs looking to sign him in January, including Inter.

However, as reported in today’s Bergamo edition of Corriere della Sera, La Dea have reached an agreement with Sevilla for Gomez, whilst the player himself has agreed personal terms on a move to La Liga.

Sevilla will take Gomez on loan until the end of the season with an obligation to sign the former Catania midfielder on a permanent deal in the summer, set at €6 million, plus an additional €2m in bonuses.

With Atalanta determined not to sell to a fellow Serie A club, Sevilla have taken advantage and Gomez is believed to be set for a medical in Spain.

Gomez rejected a move to Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin and Saudi outfit Al Hilal ahead of agreeing terms with Sevilla.
