Inter hope Antonio Conte will be hit with no more than a two-game ban following his sending off at the end of the match with Udinese on Saturday, according to an Italian media report today.

Conte was given two yellow cards in quick succession by referee Fabio Maresca at the end of the match at the Dacia Arena and everyone at Inter are of the belief that referee Maresca acted provocatively, as per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition.

At the end of the match Maresca was caught on cameras saying: ‘You have to accept things even when you do not win.’

The controversy carried on into the tunnel where the players came out with a violent verbal confrontation taking place between Conte, Maresca and Conte’s assistant coach Cristian Stellini.

Before conducting post-match interviews, Conte, accompanied by Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta, went and clarified things with Maresca, something that should have an impact on sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea’s decision.
