Inter defender Georgios Vagiannidis could be set for a surprise return to his boyhood club Panathinaikos, according to a report in the Greek media.
As per Greek broadcaster Open’s football show Total Football, Inter and the Greek Super Lig club are already in discussions over the highly-rated defender.
Vagiannidis joined Inter from Panathinaikos last summer and was almost immediately sent out on loan to Belgian club Sint-Truiden, but he has not played as much as expected.
In fact, the 19-year-old Greek youth national team representative, who is contracted to Inter until 2024, has not featured once during his loan spell in Belgium.
The players is said to be considering all solutions as far as his future is considered and as per the report, Panathinaikos would be open to acquiring him under certain conditions.
A deal is unlikely, however, because the Greek giants want Vagiannidis to rescind his contract with Inter so they can sign him as a free agent.
They are not interested in taking the defender on loan, which would probably be Inter’s preferred option.
