Inter have been credited for their Derby d’Italia victory over Juventus last week by Italian journalist Paolo Condo, using a boxing analogy to outline the importance of their win.

The Nerazzurri stunned the champions at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza with a comprehensive 2-0 victory, sealed by goals from midfield duo Arturo Vidal and Nicolo Barella.

Despite labouring to a goalless draw with Udinese yesterday following the win over Juventus, Inter remain in second place at the halfway stage of the Serie A season and trail leaders AC Milan by just two points.

Milan, meanwhile, fell to a 3-1 home defeat in their own clash against Juventus earlier this month, prompting Condo to suggest in an interview on Sky Sport Italia that Inter had a psychological advantage.

“Inter beat Juventus last week and to win in boxing you must defeat the champion to dethrone them. Milan lost to the Bianconeri, whilst Inter beat them clearly,” Condo said.

However, the journalist went on to claim that Milan had the resources to secure the Scudetto and were bolstered by a strong squad built around the spine of the team.

“The Rossoneri have now have a backbone made up of the strongest players in Serie A in those positions,” he concluded.
