Inter and AC Milan will not be able to make progress on their new stadium project until after the upcoming municipal elections in June, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Calcio e Finanza, the decision has been taken by the current city councillors to defer all matters related to the Milanese clubs’ plans for a new San Siro until after the new council is decided upon in the spring.

Representatives from both clubs recently met with city mayor Beppe Sala for talks, in which Inter and AC Milan were asked to keep a low profile until after the elections so as to not influence their outcome in any way.

The report goes on to add that BC Partners’ due diligence of Inter’s accounts, ahead of potentially buying the club from Suning, is also slowing down the project that the clubs have in mind, which will reportedly cost in the region of €1.2 billion.

The new stadium is without doubt one of the issues on the negotiating table between Suning and the British-based private equity fund, considering that the new stadium could be an added value to new owners, but at this time it is still difficult to make decisions.
