Christian Eriksen made history last night with his stoppage-time winner for Inter in the Derby della Madonnina, as highlighted by an Italian journalist.
Eriksen secured a 2-1 win for the Nerazzurri in their Coppa Italia quarter-final after curling in a free-kick, with the official goal time recorded as 96:45.
According to Giuseppe Pastore, the 28-year-old’s effort is the latest goal ever scored in the history of the Milan derby, excluding goals scored in extra-time.
The strike, which left AC Milan’s goalkeeper Ciprian Tatatrusanu rooted to the spot, was also Eriksen’s first goal of the 2020-21 season and the first goal Inter had scored directly from a free-kick in 135 games.
Eriksen has had a difficult time in Milan since joining Inter from Tottenham Hotspur last January, but many reports have suggested that this goal could spark a new beginning for him at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
This season, the 28-year-old Denmark international has made 15 appearances across all competitions, in which he has failed to provide any assists for his teammates.
The previous record for the latest ever derby goal was held by Cristian Zapata, who scored an equaliser for AC Milan some 31 seconds earlier than Eriksen during a 2-2 draw in April 2017.
Curiously, Stefano Pioli was in charge of the team which conceded the last-gasp goal on both occasions, having previously coached Inter for seven months.
