Christian Eriksen could still leave Inter before the end of the January transfer window, according to an Italian media report today.

As per Il Giorno’s print edition, Eriksen’s winning goal against AC Milan in Tuesday’s Derby della Madonnina has not changed the plans of the club, who have been attempting to offload him throughout this month.

Eriksen’s 97th-minute free-kick felt like a potential turning point in his season but this report said it had not radically changed his situation at Inter, as some had suggested.

Potential buyers are still allowed to come knocking on the door for the 28-year-old Denmark international, who has struggled to perform to expectations during his time in Milan.

Eriksen’s €7.5 million wages weigh heavily on Inter’s budget, especially one already heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

By moving him on, Inter could have some money available to them that would not be used on acquisitions but rather to pay the outstanding wages owed to their players, who are due several months worth of salaries.

The Nerazzurri are expected to pay their players’ salaries for July and August today, as per reports elsewhere.
