Inter have made a huge leap in performance between their two derby matches against AC Milan this season, a report in the Italian media argued today.

The Nerazzurri lost the first Derby della Madonnina 2-1 in October but beat the Rossoneri by the same scoreline in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals on Tuesday, as noted by per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition.

Inter have wind in their sails and are going full speed ahead in a bid to reach the top of the Serie A table, with the report praising Antonio Conte for having created a clear path towards the Scudetto in recent months.

The Milanese publication even argued that Inter are enjoying their best period of form and performances since Conte was appointed as head coach in the summer of 2019.

Conte is said to have many merits in Inter’s recent performances, including his decision to keep faith with players who had previously disappointed, such as Ivan Perisic and Christian Eriksen.

He has also improved many players individually and has them playing at high levels on a consistent basis, namely Romelu Lukaku, Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij.

After a difficult period, Achraf Hakimi is also proving himself to have been a more than appropriate investment to have made.

GdS also had a word of warning for those tipping Inter to win the Serie A title, however, arguing that the Nerazzurri would need to avoid picking up injuries if they were to win the league, given the huge gap in quality between Conte’s starting XI and those coming off the bench.
