Piero Ausilio is holding a crunch meeting with Tiago Pinto tonight as Inter and Roma work on a swap deal involving Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez, a leading Italian journalist reported tonight.

As per Sky Sport Italia reporter and transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma proposed the idea of exchanging the two forwards in the last few hours and now the clubs are working intensely to find an economic solution that can allow the deal to go through.

Although the players’ net salaries are similar, with Sanchez earning €7 million a year and Dzeko earning €7.5 million, the gross salaries are different due to Italian tax laws which Inter have taken advantage of with Sanchez, meaning they only have to pay 50% tax.

Di Marzio explained that it is essential that the clubs find a way to balance things out financially – perhaps with Roma paying Inter a fee as part of the deal – otherwise Inter cannot proceed with the move.

Further updates are expected later this evening, with reports elsewhere suggesting that tonight’s meeting is crucial to determining whether or not the swap will happen.
