Romelu Lukaku was ‘very disheartened’ yesterday after losing his temper with Zlatan Ibrahimovic during Inter’s Coppa Italia quarter-final against AC Milan, a report in the Italian media said today.
As per Tuttosport, Serie A sports judge Gerardo Mastrandrea will make his decision on the pair’s conduct tomorrow and it is possible that he could decide to extend Lukaku and Ibrahimovic’s one-match bans in the competition.
Lukaku was upset with himself for the way he lost his head in the bust-up before half-time, something which has never happened to him before in his career.
The Turin-based paper said this was proof that Ibrahimovic’s insults were ‘intolerable’, with the Swede reportedly mentioning his mother and telling Lukaku to: “Go and do your voodoo s***.”
Tuttosport also reported that Lukaku and those close to him were annoyed by Ibrahimovic’s tweet yesterday in which he denied accusations of racial abuse, before adding: “We are all players, some better than others.”
This was seen as further provocation by those at Inter.
Ibrahimovic could be punished retrospectively by the Italian Football Federation for his comments, as reported here.
