Roma’s decision to abandon talks with Inter over an Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez loan swap was influenced by online anger from their supporters, according to an Italian broadcaster this evening.

As per a report from Sky Sport Italia, when Giallorossi supporters caught wind of the news that Dzeko could be exchanged for Sanchez, they were not best pleased to put it mildly.

Many Romanisti could not understand why the club were prepared to strengthen Inter, a direct competitor for UEFA Champions League qualification, by giving them Dzeko, their club captain who has scored 114 goals in a Giallorossi shirt.

This ‘uprising’ influenced Roma’s decision to end negotiations with Inter, although Sky assured it was also because the clubs could not find a mutually satisfactory economic agreement.

The report confirmed that barring any sensational twists or turns everything will remain as is, with Dzeko staying in the capital and Sanchez remaining with Inter, where he has struggled to perform on a consistent basis for Antonio Conte this season.
