Inter and Roma’s proposed loan swap involving Alexis Sanchez and Roma is off, according to an Italian media report this afternoon.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport‘s online edition, the deal cannot go through because the two clubs could not come to an agreement over how to make up the difference between the forwards’ respective salaries.

When talks began it was known that there was a difference in the gross wages that the two players earn, with Inter paying less tax on Sanchez’s wages than Roma do with Dzeko.

Roma could have bridged the gap by paying a small sum, or Inter could have offered another player as part of the swap to reduce their wage bill – potentially Andrea Pinamonti or Ionut Radu – but it seems no solution was possible.

Inter could not afford to increase their wage bill whatsoever due to their current delicate financial situation and although Sanchez pushed for a move to go through, the Chilean appears set to stay with the Nerazzurri.

The report from the Milan-based news outlet states that the chances of the two players changing shirts now sits at 0%.
