Inter’s chances of swapping Alexis Sanchez for Roma striker Edin Dzeko are not completely gone just yet, according to a Italian transfer expert tonight.

Reports across Italy this evening have suggested the clubs have given up on talks to exchange the two forwards, with Giallorossi sporting director Tiago Pinto leaving Milan to return to the capital earlier.

However, Alfredo Pedulla believes the deal is not dead in the water and said in a report on his website that it is worth ‘leaving a door open’ until Monday’s deadline.

He argued that because Roma have attempted to sell Dzeko for the second time in the space of six months, having previously tried to send the Bosnian to Juventus in the summer, it is possible they will make another attempt to offload him after the weekend.

Inter are unable to do the swap with the capital club if they have to spend any money on the deal, given the club’s well-known economic difficulties.

Roma, meanwhile, do not want to pay a fee as part of the loan swap, which they would need to do in order to bridge the gap between Dzeko and Sanchez’s before-tax salaries.

The Giallorossi were the ones to initially suggest the idea of an exchange and it is clear they would have a huge problem within their dressing room if Dzeko stayed, after the former Manchester City forward fell out with head coach Paulo Fonseca last week.

It remains to be seen how desperate they are to get rid of the 34-year-old and whether it could lead them to concede ground with Inter and push the deal through.
